Fairtrade

A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away
Proverbs 13: 23

Unfair trade has been a problem for centuries as illustrated by the extract above from the Book of Proverbs! However, we at Carterknowle Methodist church are proud to stand alongside the poor and marginalised of our world.

One way in which we demonstrate this is by being a Fairtrade church. This means that:-

  • We only serve Fairtrade tea and coffee at events which we organise.
  • We are trying to move forward on using other Fairtrade products (e.g. sugar and biscuits) where possible.
  • We promote Fairtrade in our services during Fairtrade fortnight.

The Fairtrade mark means that :-

  • Farmers get a fair and stable price for their products.
  • Producer groups get a premium to invest in improving their businesses and communities.
  • Greater respect is shown for the environment, as producers are encouraged to use environmentally sustainable methods in growing their products.
  • Small farmers have a stronger position in world markets.
  • There is a closer link between producers and shoppers.

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
Amos 5: 24
