Oasis Cafe
|
The Oasis Café opened in September 1992 with the aim of serving the community. We did not want to make a profit, but just to provide a place for rest in this busy world.
Anyone is welcome in the café and amongst the customers are people of every age and background. The busiest times are when members of the toddler group bring their children in for lunch. Sometimes there are as many as 20 small children in the café at the same time, along with their mothers, father or carers.
Currently the café is open from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm on Monday to Thursday during school term time serving drinks (tea, coffee, squash etc.) and light refreshments such as jacket potatoes, beans on toast and toasted sandwiches. We are a Christian organisation, and we see the work in the café as a way of showing Christ's love. It is staffed by volunteers from the church and in the time it has been open, more than 30 people have been involved. About 6 of the original staff are still involved!

From the start the idea was to serve food and drinks for a price that anyone could afford and to make those who came into the café feel very welcome. If anyone wishes to talk about anything we do our best to find time to sit and chat with them.
We do have other regular customers, including workmen, retired people and people living locally. We also deliver food to the local shops.
